Activities and tools

Since 2002 ANIMA, in the framework of a European Commission project, has accompanied the Mediterranean IPAs in setting up tools and methods to increase their country attractiveness for foreign investment. The achievements, in a context facilitated by the petrodollars, are remarkable: 6-fold increase in investment flow (FDI) into the region, with nearly US$60 billion in 2006, up from 10 billion in the early 2000s (Source: UNCTAD). At the same time, ANIMA became a significant actor serving the economic development of the Mediterranean area :

• The project set up an "academy" on the attraction of investment (more than 1,500 professionals trained on attractiveness best practices, 55 capacity building seminars, 11 internships and 5 one-year secondments;

• A dynamic strategy for the promotion of the Mediterranean site was developed with the participation in 22 Euromed events, 4 road-shows and trade shows and 57 single presentations or presentations in FDI or trade events; the launch of 11 international conferences (3 Mediterranean Business Summit/ The Economist, Palermo Euromed Forum, 5 ANIMA open conferences, 2 Medinnov fora), the distribution of newsletters and the creation of a web site (www.animaweb.org) attracting over a million visitors per year;

• A investment intelligence center was developed, monitoring the FDI environment in the region on a daily basis: 2,100 investment projects detected since 2003 by the MIPO observatory, 24 sectoral and business environment studies -bilingual and downloadable on this site-, one investment fund observatory…);

• Catalyst for investments, ANIMA also launched pilot initiatives: on the return of diaspora investors (Home Sweet Home, Génération Méditerranée), preparation of a Euro-Mediterranean charter for investment, development and promotion of franchise, creation of a Euro-Mediterranean community of technological poles (MedIntelligence / Medinnov/ Medibtikar).

All these assets have been taken over by ANIMA Investment Network, which ensures their maintenance and development.
