During his visit to Syria, Saad Hariri, Lebanese Prime Minister, signed 17 bilateral agreements with Syrian officials. According to the Italian Trade Commission in Beirut, these agreements ‘[…] aim to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the areas of investment protection, maritime transport, tourism, taxation, the pharmaceutical industry, the environment, justice, agriculture, health, public works, education, consumer protection and culture.’
Since the first months of 2010 Lebanese exports towards Syria have increased (+16,3%) compared to the same period of 2009. Thus, exports rose from €60m to €70m and especially in mineral products (+19%) and pre-packaged food products (+17%). Moreover, Lebanese imports from Syria rose from €51m to €98m (+70,8%).
