The Turkish government will soon launch test labs for research and development (R&D) in the automotive sector to boost national manufacturing. According to the Industry and Trade Minister, Nihat Ergun, Turkey will soon ‘introduce a road map for the automotive sector to boost the industry's competitiveness and its manufacturing and designing abilities. We will open R&D labs which would make design verification, and feature crash test facilities and wind tunnels.’ The Government will implement a new strategy, with the medium-term target to make 2 million vehicles annually, ‘exporting 1.5 million of them and receiving USD5bn as returns as well as creating 600,000 new jobs.’
