Syngenta, a world-leader in agribusiness and with a market cap of $20 billion, is acquiring Zeraim Gedera Ltd, which specializes in the cultivation, production, and marketing of seeds for vegetables and field crops. Chief Operating Officer of Syngenta Seeds, Mike Mac said, “Zeraim Gedera’s portfolio and its strong presence in Mediterranean markets ideally complement our vegetable seeds business.” Zeraim Gedera, with reportedly $30 million in revenue in 2006 and 20-25% annual growth, specializes in developing fruits and vegetables with a long shelf-life and recently created the “personal watermelon.”
