Algeria's National Oil Company Sonatrach and Samsung Engineering signed on 4 July 2009 a 2.6 bn USD contract for Skikda refinery rehabilitation and modernization. The three-year works will enable to increase Skikda plant refining capacities and to produce new hydrocarbon products (Isomerate, Para-Xylene and Benzene).

The Korean company thus broadens its geographical scope of intervention, from Middle East to Maghreb, and gets the largest plant order ever awarded to a Korean company despite world economic turmoil. Samsung Engineering's President & CEO Yeon-Joo Jung hails this order that  "establishes a strong foundation with Algeria's National Oil Company Sonatrach and the African market”.
