In line with the Mediterranean Solar Plan initiative and other programmes supported by the World Environment Fund (WEF) and the World Bank, Tunisia will implement a national solar plan. With 40 public-private projects scheduled over the 2010-2016 period, the Tunisian Solar Plan will encompass all fields of energy efficiency and renewable energies.
The plan will allow an estimated CO2 emmission reduction of 1,300,000 tonnes per year. In addition, Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) will generate an approximate 130 million euro revenue (240 million dinars) for a 10 years-period (on the basis of 10 euro per tonne).
Targeting an annual energy saving of 660 kTep, that is 22% of the overall forecast for Tunisia's energy consumption reduction by 2016, the Tunisian Solar Plan confirms the country's ambition to become an international hub for energy production and exportation and its committment toward sustainable development.
