"Thirteen international companies and consortia are competing for the new tenders launched by the Algerian Water Resources Ministry for the construction of the last two desalination plants for sea water envisaged in the five-year 2005-2009 development programme. The works will be launched by the first quarter of 2008. The second tender concerns the construction of a desalination plant in Oued Sebt, near Tipaza (100kms west of Algiers) with a capacity of 100,000 cubic metres a day.
