Jordan bets on nuclear energy to reduce its depency towards foreign oil - 07 January 2010

Amman is strongly willing to develop its civil nuclear programme in order to become ‘an electricity exporter’. Jordan, which is deprived of significant oil and gas reserves, has to cope with a growing local demand for energy. During a meeting with an official US Congressional delegation, the president of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, Mr Khalid Touqan, declared that ‘Jordan is facing severe challenges in energy and water scarcity in light of increasing demand for energy’.
