After a respectable 2012 year in terms of FDI, the amount of investment projects announcements identified by the ANIMA-MIPO observatory in Algeria in 2013 registers a slight decrease compared to the previous two years. This trend is more in line with UNCTAD figures, which announced an increase of 9% of FDI inflows in 2013, than with the significantly higher figures released by the Algerian public authorities for the same period.

As usual, more than 50% of the recorded flows are directed toward the energy sector, with two predominant projects: the launch of the production phase in the Menzel Ledjmet East field by the Italian ENI as well as a capital increase by the Spanish petrochemical group Fertiberia in its Algerian subsidiary Fertial. 
Projects identified in metallurgy also occupied an important place in 2013 FDI intentions share: 6 projects totalling €308 million are recorded, starting by the development by Qatar Steel and Qatar Mining of a steel complex in the Jijel region and followed by the extension of the El Hadjar site by ArcelorMittal.

This presentation was produced in the framework of a cycle of EUROMED Invest Business Roadshows which took place in Warsaw, Riga and Helsinki between March and May 2017. These events welcomed local entrepreneurs eager to learn more about the untapped business and investment opportunities in the renewables & green technologies sectors in the Mediter-ranean region. As in Northern EU countries the Mediterranean region is still unknown, the main objective of the roadshows was to demystify some of the stereotypes while increasing exchanges between the two regions.
