DIASPORA - ANIMA and its partners to launch Diafrik Invest project

8/02/2017
Country: Europe, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia
Activity: Other or not specified

ANIMA and its partners are pleased to launch DiafrikInvest project. During three years, about 40 operations for local and diaspora entrepreneurs, business angels and public institutions from Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia will be carried out.

Through support for entrepreneurship, for local development initiatives and investment, DiafrikInvest intends to strengthen the long-term commitment of the high potentials and entrepreneurs of the Moroccan, Tunisian and Senegalese diasporas in the creation of strong local impact initiatives. It also aims to accompany the three countries in the development of new strategies for economic diasporas.

Funded by the European Union through EuropeAid for EUR 2 million, the project is being implemented within the framework of the Euro-African Dialogue on Migration and Development (Rabat Process).

Three pillars of activities

To start, 45 high potentials, 50 networks and 50 diaspora entrepreneurs in Europe and the Maghreb will be identified in priority sectors for the development of their countries of origin such as environment, green technologies, health, education and agri-food. They will be involved in a consultation process with national institutions and business support organisations on the obstacles to be lifted in order to optimise transnational business relations and the adoption of strategies targeting the diaspora.

Numerous actions - such as the coaching of 120 project leaders from the diasporas who will benefit from personalised support for business start-ups in their countries of origin - will then help to strengthen the capacity of local entrepreneurs and from the diaspora for local development.

In addition, financial vehicles adapted to diaspora engagement methods will enhance productive investment: selection and promotion of projects on a crowdfunding platform targeting diaspora investors to finance them or training entrepreneurs to pitch project in preparation of their participation in "Investment Academies" during which they will meet in Africa and Europe investors and Business angels.

A consortium of six partners

ANIMA coordinates the project as part of a consortium of six partners: l’Agence pour la Coopération Internationale et le développement local en Méditerranée (ACIM); l’Association pour le Développement de l’Enseignement et des Recherches (ADER) Méditerranée ; Start-up Maroc ; Confederation of Tunisian Citizen Entreprises (CONECT) ; The Centre des jeunes dirigeants du Sénégal (CJD Sénégal) and AM BE KOUN. The Moroccan Investment Development Agency (AMDI) is also associated to the project.

The kick off meeting will take place at the Villa Méditerranée in Marseille, during a public conference (in French) on February 15, 2017, from 9 am to 2 pm.

Two highlights will mark the launching event: "The challenges of mobilising bicultural talents" and "Experiences and ambitions for the DiafrikInvest project". The exchanges will bring together representatives of the private sector, public institutions and civil society, and will be followed by a lunch cocktail.
