The EUROMED Invest final conference was held on 14 December 2017 at the European Economic and Social Committee's headquarters (EESC) in Brussels, Belgium.

The event, gathering implementing partners and project's final beneficiaries, was the occasion to have a look on the project achievements and highlighted the involvement of the European Union in the development of the Euro-Mediterranean economy.

Since the beginning of the project, EUROMED Invest trained nearly 2000 people and benefited to 9000 organisations, mostly start-ups, SMEs and Business Support Organisations, but also clusters, technoparks, incubators and local and central authorities. From December 2014 to December 2017, 4524 Business-to-business meetings were organised during the EUROMED Invest Business Roadshows, both in the North and in the South of the Mediterranean. During these activities, 691 business partnerships were identified through the B2B meetings and 30 partnership contracts have been signed since then.

EUROMED Invest Achievements and results

The project’s final conference contributed to open-up a debate regarding the path to follow for an enhanced business climate in the region. Several international organisations (OECD, UNIDO, BUSINESSMED, ASCAME, Union for the Mediterranean …), as well as European Commission representatives (DG NEAR, DG GROW and DG TRADE) took part in the discussions.

An honourable keynote speech was given by Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations who placed the emphasis on economic cooperation between the EU and the Southern Mediterranean countries and the important role played by the private sector. “The public and private sectors should continue to work hand in hand to create the necessary policy framework in which the private sector can evolve, create jobs and make the economies stronger” stated Commissioner Hahn at the opening of the conference.

The conference format switched from experts analyses to implementing partners' assessment and success stories testimonials of companies and young entrepreneurs who benefited from the project activities. The closing remarks were led by ASCAME, BUSINESSMED and the Union for Mediterranean that looked the way forward on regional development in the Euro-Mediterranean area.

We would like to thank all the organisations who partnered with us in implementing the EUROMED Invest project, we hope to continue cooperating with you in fostering the economic development of the Mediterranean region in the years to come.
