After the international Bootcamp at thecamp, which brought together 55 entrepreneurs from Tunisia, Morocco and Senegal at the end of April, the first DiafrikInvest group coaching session took place on 19 June 2019 at the Maison du Maroc, within the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, with the aim of helping them refine their fundraising strategy with investors.

This first "Investment Academy" of the DiafrikInvest acceleration programme brought together about thirty entrepreneurs, selected on the basis of their ability to generate a positive local impact, to benefit from the expertise of Effectus, a company specialised in strategy and investment consulting, particularly for companies (SMEs and start-ups). Thameur Hemdane, founder and president of Afrikwity, a pioneering equity crowdfunging platform in Africa, led this day of collective coaching.

The entrepreneurs involved, from the Moroccan, Tunisian and Senegalese diasporas, received operational advice to understand the expectations and selection criteria of an investor, and to understand the chain and the different financing tools. The challenge was to understand the main steps of a fundraising process in order to identify its level of Investment Readiness. Mr. Hemdane presented in an analysed approach the different stages of a fundraising campaign as well as the main trends in venture capital in France and Africa. He provided numerous tips to entrepreneurs attending question and answer sessions to help them structure their pitch deck and prepare their checklist for potential fundraising.

Following this event, the entrepreneurs accompanied by DiafrikInvest had the opportunity to close their Paris stay by participating in the Forum for the African diasporas 2019, by having a presence on the ANIMA Investment Network stand, and thus to benefit from the networking spaces, conferences, workshops and business opportunities present.

At the centre of the forum was a pitch contest organised by La Banque Postale, the first prize of which was won by CLOUDFRET, a Moroccan marketplace for linking Shippers/Freight Forwarders and Freight Forwarders, aiming to optimise empty truck journeys by road transport, which is one of the projects supported by the international acceleration programme DiafrikInvest.

Other entrepreneurs from Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia will have the opportunity to participate in the second Investment Academy DiafrikInvest, on October 22, 2019 in Dakar, which will be organised by CJD Senegal, and which will also prepare them to meet investors, at dedicated events, scheduled in Rabat and Tunis, in early 2020.

Individual support in preparing for fundraising is also underway for some beneficiaries, and crowdfunding campaigns for selected projects will be launched shortly.
