THE NEXT SOCIETY - Innovators shaping the future in the mediterranean

THE NEXT SOCIETY is an open community of change makers engaged in innovation and economic development. It brings together already entrepreneurs, investors, corporates, NGOs, public and private innovation, research and economic development hubs from Europe and the Mediterranean countries. It gathers already a large network of over 300 business & innovation, research and investment organisations, 2,500 international SMEs and entrepreneurs from 30 countries.

THE NEXT SOCIETY is launching a four year action plan (2017-2020), co-funded by the EU up to 90% for a global amount of EUR 7.8 million budget, which impacts several levels of the innovation ecosystem:

Improve policy frameworks: THE NEXT SOCIETY establishes a public-private dialogue and benchmarks the performance of Mediterranean innovation ecosystems in order to define and implement country strategic roadmaps and improve innovation support strategies.

Foster start-up success: THE NEXT SOCIETY offers tailor-made support to Mediterranean start-ups to help them go international and raise funds thanks to workshops and training sessions, immersion into foreign markets and incubation in European innovation hubs, meetings with investors and long-term coaching by committed mentors. Promote and internationalise clusters: THE NEXT SOCIETY develops peer-learning services for business and industrial clusters as well as foreign partnership and guide them towards a Cluster Excellence management approach. More information on the Clusters Booster Track.

Accelerating technology transfer towards the enterprise: THE NEXT SOCIETY involves technology transfer offices, universities, researchers and creators to develop solutions to the challenges faced by their countries, through calls for projects and workshops with potential users of these solutions (large international firms, industry leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, civil society). Projet DiafrikInvest


Diafrik Invest - Connecting talents and opportunities


DiafrikInvest aims to accelerate and support the mobilisation of high potentials, entrepreneurs and investors from the diaspora to boost business relations between Europe, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia and thus contribute to the economic development. Some 40 operations for local and diaspora entrepreneurs, business angels and national institutions of Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia will be carried out during 3 years, from December 2016 to June 2020.

DiafrikInvest intends to provide answers and advices, by supporting the diaspora entrepreneurs but also by working with the national institutions on their diaspora strategy and support mechanisms. This initiative also offers a range of possibilities for diaspora high potentials to get involved: sharing its experience as a mentor with young entrepreneurs, influencing the business environment, connecting to innovations, or co-investing ...

The project is cofinanced (90%), for an amount of EUR 2 million, by the European Union through EuropeAid following the commitments made in the Rome Declaration. It has initiated a new phase of the Rabat process for 2015-2017, whose one of the main objectives is to strengthen the link between migration and development.

ANIMA Investment Network coordinates the project as part of a consortium of three partners.

EBSOMED (Enhancing Business Support Organisations and Business Networks in the Southern Neighbourhood), is a 4-year project (2018-2022) with a budget of 6.25 million Euros, funded by the European Commission up to 80%. . 
EBSOMED aims at boosting the Mediterranean Business Ecosystem promoting an inclusive economic development, by enhancing the private sector organisations in the Southern Neighborhood Countries. More specifically, EBSOMED will improve the overall management capacity of Mediterranean Business Support Organisations (BSOs) through enhanced services and quality standards. 
EBSOMED is led by the Union of Mediterranean Confederations of Enterprises (BUSINESSMED) and implemented by a consortium of 6 partners. EUROCHAMBRES (Association of Chambers of Commerce in Europe); ASCAME (Association of Chambers of Commerce in the Mediterranean); ANIMA Investment Network; CAWTAR (Center of Arab Women for Training and Research); GACIC (German-Arabic Chambers of Commerce).

Projet MADRE


MADRE - Metropolitan Agriculture for Developing an innovative, sustainable and Responsible Economy


MADRE aims to change the metropolitan food supply model by capitalising on existing good practices, by empowering the different stakeholders in metropolitan and peri-urban agriculture, and by initiating a dynamic of transnational cooperation in the MED region. This European project of territorial cooperation in the Mediterranean is implemented within the framework of the Interreg MED programme, financed by the European Union.

The objectives of MADRE are:

  • To improve the innovation capacity of metropolitan agriculture in the Mediterranean territories;
  • To identify and evaluate the economic, environmental and social performance factors of metropolitan agriculture;
  • To identify and network metropolitan agriculture stakeholders;
  • To assess the feasibility, conditions and means of creating a transnational cluster of actors in metropolitan agriculture.

The MADRE project will be implemented from February 2017 to July 2018 with a total budget of € 1.17 mln co-financed € 0.99 mln by the Interreg MED Programme. The emergence of a transnational cluster will be supported by a multidisciplinary partnership from 5 countries: France (AVITEM, ANIMA, Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier), Italy (Metropolitan City of Bologna), Spain (MedCities – Barcelona Metropolitan Area), Greece (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) and Albania (Agricultural University of Tirana), each partner representing a flagsghip metropolitan area.

Projet EuromedInvest


EUROMED INVEST - Promote business and private investments for an inclusive economic developement in the Mediterranean


The European Commission has just selected ANIMA Investment Network to coordinate the Euromed Invest project, aiming at boosting investment and business partnerships in the Euromed area. Involving 83 partners in 26 countries from Europe and South Mediterranean (business networks, CCI and economic development institutions networks), it will contribute to the inclusive development of the region and the international development of MSMEs in 5 strategic sectors for job creation and economic spillovers. This project is implemented in the framework of the EU Private sector development programme in the Southern Mediterranean.
