The social and solidarity economy, an engine for growth in the Mediterranean

Country: Euromed, Europe
Activity: Other or not specified

To what extent can the social and solidarity economy (SSE) contribute to the development of Mediterranean economies? The ANIMA network has addressed this issue in a contribution to the 2017 report of FEMISE (Euro-Mediterranean Forum of Institutes of Economic Sciences). For ANIMA, SSE, which offers an effective response to the region's major challenges (creation of jobs for the youth, integration of the informal sector, reduction of inequalities and contribution to economic diversification), should be encouraged by any available support mechanism for entrepreneurship in order to disseminate its responsibility values, rather than through specific tools that tend to separate SSE from the rest of the economy.
