Activity: Agribusiness

Thanks to the EUROMED Invest project, a mentoring mission between two Mediterranean companies was organised between September 2016 and March 2017. The objective was to lay the ground for a lasting partnership between 2 cheese producers from Egypt and Greece.

Indeed, the Greek and Egyptian cheese producers Kissas and Daoud Trading met during a B2B activity of the ENPI CBC MED project LACTIMED in 2015. The companies agreed to study the possibility of a joint venture for cheese production for the Egyptian, the Arab and the European markets exploiting their facilities in Mouzaki and Alexandria.

Throughout the support of GACIC and the EUROMED Invest Entrepreneurs Mentoring Programme, the two companies arranged the first exchange mission in September 2016.
Both companies agreed that their joint project would lead to a win-win situation supporting the internationalisation and improvement of production standards of Daoud Trading and enlarging the export markets for the Greek SME Kissas. They decided then to establish a joint venture with same shares for both for creating a feta style cheese production facility in Egypt, and for building upon the existing facilities of Daoud Trading in Alexandria. The agreement included also the upgrading of the existing manufacturing facilities of Daoud Trading such as introducing an air filter, a separate changing area for workers as well as joint activities in marketing and exports.

“Our work has paid off, we have a solid agreement for joint production with Kissas and we have an export order with 10 containers for Greece. I am happy and grateful that the EUROMED Invest initiative that made this possible by supporting our joint initiative”, said Amr Daoud, Owner and General Manager of Daoud Trading Company.

Daoud Trading will now produce Egyptian cheese in the Kissas facilities and will be able to overcome the ban of import of Egyptian dairy products to the EU.
To further discuss the details of the cooperation as well as to see possible equipment that shall be purchased to build up the facility in Egypt, a second business meeting was held in March 2017 when Mr. Amr Daoud travelled to Thessaloniki to visit the Mr. Dimitris.

Apart from the Kissas cooperation, Mr. Daoud also made a representation agreement with another Greek company based in Bulgaria.
